Is it time to digitise your audio cassette tapes?

Old-audio-cassettesThe audio cassette tape, or compact cassette, was first introduced in the 1960s. They were a popular method of home recording and listening to music albums until 2001 when CDs were introduced.

Initially, problems with the playing of the tapes was due to the cassettes players. More recently, however, the problems lie with the tapes themselves.

Depending on the quality of the tape, and how it has been stored, an ageing tape may start to shed and create build up causing it to drag and get sticky. Sound quality is affected and eventually it may stop playing altogether.

The only way to guarantee saving analog recordings of your children, family or favourite music is to have them digitised and transferred to a storage device or CD. You could then also transfer the files to your iPhone, other mobiles and streaming devices.
